Most would call it crazy but I call it getting the job done. I am taking summer classes right now and it is not easy but I am seeing the benefits of it. One is the length of time of the course. There are some classes only 5 weeks long and other 8 weeks long. This is nice in a sense because I will be done with 12 credits in a shorter time then most students. This also means lots of work in a shorter time frame. Summer classes are not bad when you want to get on with your career and finish it up. I would suggest taking them, just not super earlier in the morning. Don’t kid yourself. No one is going to want to wake up earlier in the summer.

When you drive by the school all you really see is a sign that says Chemeketa Community College and a bunch of trees. Unless you turn down one of the side streets you really don’t get to see the college. Once you do turn off the busy, horrible Lancaster drive you will see a community. I feel like we have our own little world at the school. You can find pretty much everything on the campus which brings a great feeling to everyone. To know you don’t have to make 200 trips on and off campus is very helpful for when you only have ten minutes to grab something before the next class. If you pull up in front of building two you really only see buildings and people standing around waiting for rides. I think once you enter the new quad you see the real Chemeketa. You see building nine, which is all glass and one of our nicest buildings we have. Next you see the grass area which I hear gets pretty crazy in the spring. Of course all around you see all the students which is encouraging in itself, mainly because it makes you want to get to work and start focusing on school work. Looking at the school you will see a wide variety of people and diversity. This is what makes Chemeketa what it is. I enjoy it too. I love knowing that I go to a school that is full of character, it makes us ready to enter into the big, bad world. So live it and love it! Try it, you might like it.

I come from a small family. My family consistes of two people, my father, Gary and my sister, Adele. My sister is only one year younger then me. I do not know what I would do without her. She is one of the most important people in my life. She keeps me going and picks me up when I am down. My father is the most outstanding man I have ever met, and heck yes I am bias in every which way when it comes to him. He is a hard worker. He is a self employed carpenter. He is the best carpenter I have ever seen, his work speaks for itself. Every house he builds or works on is like a mater piece when he it is finished, I would almost call him an artist as well as a carpenter. What he does is pure art. I am the oldest so this means I am the first to go to college. My father started working right out of high school and being a carpenter job experience was more important then education, plus I do not think anyone could teach what my father knows about the carpentry world. Being the first one to go to college is encouraging. I love to know my sister is looking up to me, it is one of my reasons to do so well in school. I hope that she and others can look at me and want the same thing in life that I am trying to achieve. I hope others can grow from my strengths and learn from my weaknesses. We all grow and fall differently so if we can learn from others why not try.

Everyone needs that one spot where they can go and get away for a mintue or even for a couple of hours. Trust me you will need that one place a couple times a week. School and studying will get to you after a while. So having a place where you feel relaxed is very important. The place I go to relax is the library. I study there before and after class. Even just to go sit and take a break from everything. I also enjoy the sky bridges from building one and nine.It is a great place to meet with friends and catch up. I love the open sky bridge where you can see everyone walking on and off of campus. You must find a place where you can escape and relax. There are many different locations to choose from, the multicultural center, to the gym, and just in the hall, you will find somewhere just for you.

I am currently taking all general classes which do not consist of any specific “fun” classes. I really enjoy math though, so picking a favorite class I would choose my math class. Everyone says that is so sad, but I truly love math. The most challenging class thus far would be my writing class, mainly because we had a paper due the same week our final paper was due. Both papers had similar ideas so it got a little confusing, but in the end with hard work and determination we all can make it through the class. Never let that one class that you cannot stand bring you down. Push through and you will make it.

My major is in business. There are many aspects of the business field and I believe I want to go into public relations and maybe student affairs. I have just recently found the love and passion of working with recruitment and getting other students involved. So if I could make that a career why not, I love it. I chose the business field for several reasons, one being it deals with people. I have to be around people all the time. Another reason is listening to others and their experiences. Also the beauty of business is traveling, which is another thing i adore. Pulling all the things that I enjoy doing into a career would be a dream come true, which will be done all through business.

Chemeketa was not even a chose for me. I never in a million years thought I would be attending this college. I was the typical high school girl, wanting to go to the big university and have the time of my life. I worked very hard in high school to receive a GPA of a 4.0 and wanted to go where I could get the most scholarships. I thought for sure OSU, the school I had my heart sent on would give me endless amount of money, NOT AT ALL, I received nothing. The other school was PSU and they gave me a few thousand but still I knew there was more. Chemeketa, was it. I receieved the scholarship for the schalors and an additional scholarship from an outside source. You must use all the oppurtunities out there. I believe Chemeketa has been amazing chose, not only the scholarship but all the helpful staff.
