Online Courses

Category: Questions

Have you ever done an online or hybrid course before? If so, what was your experience like? If not, why, do you have hesitations or concerns?

I actually have not ever taken an online class; however, I did take a hybrid class. I didn’t know at the time I signed up for it that it was a hybrid class, but I thought that I would stick with it. I actually really enjoyed that class. It was fun going to class two days a week, but still getting credit for three. Of course there was work to do online, but it was never confusing or hard to figure out. Actually I wish I would have tried more classes like that.

The reason I haven’t taken any online classes, is due to the fact that I need instructor student interaction. I like the feeling of going to class and interacting with other students and teachers face to face. How are you supposed to make friends if you never meet anybody? Also, I like to be able to ask question and get the answer right away. Online classes do work well for many people though. I have several friends who have taken them and really enjoy it. I’m not trying to say they are a bad way to take a class, just not the way that works well for me.

Feeling Safe

Category: Questions

Do you feel safe at Chemeketa? Explain

That is one thing I do not worry about here at Chemeketa. I never feel
unsafe or in danger here. Even nights that I am here late and its dark
outside, I feel secure. Plus I know that if I didn’t feel safe I could
always ask Public Safety to walk me to my car. They are always more
than willing to help in any way that they can. Another point to keep in
mind is that fact that Chemeketa hasn’t had any major instances of
violence for years. I would say it is one of the safest campuses in
Oregon. To anyone who may feel they are in danger I suggest they talk
to Public Safety and see all of the resources they provide. That gives
peace of mind to me.

Favorite Place

Category: Questions

Where is your favorite place to go on campus to relax? Why?

I would say my favorite place to go and relax on campus would be the eating area in Building 2. I love to go grab some lunch, sit in a small booth, and read a book. Yeah there normally are a lot of people back there eating and talking, but I like it. They play music and its fun just watching people laugh and have a good time. Other than that if I want to go relax, I go home. There are several places on campus to get away and simply relax, however. You just have to find the place that fits you the best.

Help On Campus

Category: Questions

Who do you go to for help on campus? Are you close with your instructors? Explain

Due to the fact that I’m fortunate enough to work on campus, I go to my boss or other co-workers if I need help with something. However, that doesn’t seem to happen too much. After being here two years I know the ropes pretty well. If I have a question about my account or I’m having troubles registering for a class, I go to the enrollment center and talk with lovely ladies in there. They are always very helpful, and they don’t let me leave until they solve the problem.

Am I close to my instructors? Well, there are a few that I have formed friendships with that I always stop and talk to when I see them roaming around campus. Also, if I can I always like to sign up to take their classes. That is one thing I really like about Chemeketa. Class sizes are small enough that your instructor learns your name and often times remembers it long after you have taken their class.

Favorite Class

Category: Questions

What is my favorite class I have taken here at Chemeketa?

What is my favorite class that I have taken here at Chemeketa? I don’t think I can narrow that down to one class. I’ve loved the psychology classes that I have taken. Partly, because the course work was interesting, but also I had the best instructor ever! I would recommend everyone to take at least one class from Sam Pierce. He is phenomenal at his job. I also have to mention all the music classes I have taken here at Chemeketa. Due to Sandee, the instructor, they have all been great classes. That has included my voice class, music literature, and choir. I almost forgot…another awesome class is jazz dance with Dee. She knows her stuff and makes the class unforgettable. In my opinion if you take a class with a subject that is interesting to you, you will enjoy it. So, get out there and take something that sounds interesting to you.

Chemeketa Idol

Category: Life

So, yesterday was round two of Chemeketa Idol, and I made it through to round three. I will be honest I was a little worried, because I didn’t have a song prepared. Luckily, I had one in my car that I had just sung the week before. Needless to say, things went well and now I have a week to prepare a song for the next round of competition. Wish me luck!

First Impression

Category: Questions

What was your first impression of Chemeketa?

What was my first impression of Chemeketa? When I think about that question, one thing comes to mind, overwhelming. Now let me explain myself. I don’t mean that in a bad way at all. I was just new to the college seen and I had no idea what I was doing. Also, I came from a small school of only 360 students, and as soon as I walked through the door I saw easily more than that in just one building. My fears were soon eliminated with the first person I talked to. All of the staff here at Chemeketa, made things easy and were amazingly helpful.
As time has gone by I feel so comfortable here at Chemeketa. I now recognize faces and have friends all over the place. Working here has also introduced me to tons of new people, so I feel like I’m a part of the Chemeketa family. And now I have the opportunity of making other new students feel comfortable by giving them tours and the information they need to get started. Chemeketa really is a great place to be involved and help out. I have loved every minute of my two years here except for finals:-)

Mother’s Day

Category: Life

droc104_after_shot_05_e.jpgThis weekend was Mother’s Day. I love the holiday, because it’s a day that we all stop and thank our moms for all the things they do for us. And you have to admit that’s a lot. Well, I come to the same dilemma every year around Mother’s Day…what can I get for my mom that really shows how much I appreciate her? For a poor college student this can be quite a hard task. Of course moms are happy if we just pay them a little attention, but as a daughter of one of the best mom’s in the world, I feel the need to do something spectacular! So, this year I roped my boyfriend in for the task of building my mom a fire pit. However, this is not just any fire pit. We are going to make it a three foot tall beautiful stone masterpiece. You may be thinking well mother’s day has already passed and you haven’t finished it. No I haven’t, actually I haven’t even started it yet…I know that’s bad. Let me explain, I didn’t come up with the idea until about a week before Mother’s Day and first I have to take down our pool which will be a project all in itself. I am hoping to have it finished in three weeks, and my mom has a picture to look at of what she is getting. You can see what we are planning to build in the picture above. Don’t worry I’ll be sure to post a picture when we finish our project. Overall, Mother’s Day was great, I just can’t wait until we finish her present. I’ll keep you posted Toodles!
