    Yamhill Valley's Academic Transitions staff is available to help you prepare for the General Education Development (GED) test.

    New Students Must Complete the Admissions Application

    Students 18 or Over 

    Students ages 18 and older who want to earn a GED

    1. Apply for admission as a GED seeker - No application fee. 
    2. Schedule an orientation (call us at 503.472.9482 to schedule)
    3. Take CASAS testing (will be scheduled at your orientation)
    4. Register for classes

    You must first obtain a Chemeketa student number by completing the Admission Application

    Students Ages 16 or 17 

    To apply as an underage student, you must fill out the "Underage Admission Application", and the "consent form" in the underage approval packet. The consent form needs to be signed off by the parent or guardian and by a counselor or administrator at the local high school (even if you do not attend the local high school).  You can email the completed and signed Underage Approval Packet (16-17) to Yamhill Valley Student Services. Please allow 5 -7 days prior to the orientation for the paperwork to be processed. 

    GED preparation Class Orientation

    Orientation and placement testing are required for all new students.  

    We have day and evening in-person orientations and placement testing for all new students. These orientations will be for GED and ESOL and held in Spanish and English. 

    After you receive your K#, please call 503.472.9482 to register for orientation and testing. 

    GED Prep Classes

    Academic Transitions offers classes to prepare for the GED test –

    • Mathematical Reasoning
    • Language Arts
    • Social Studies
    • Science

    Classes are being offered in-person and remote. Students who want to take this class remotely must have a computer/laptop/tablet and internet available. We have a very limited supply of laptops to check out each term, on a first-come, first-served basis. Day and Evening classes are available.

    Classes for spring term run March 28 - June 10, 2022

    Classes cost $50 per term. 

    Spring term class schedule:

    • Day Class: 
      • Tuesday and Thursday: 9 am - 11:50 am
    • Evening class:
      • Monday and Wednesday: 5:30 pm - 7:50 pm
    • Remote Classes will be at the same times, hosted live through ZOOM

    GED Official Testing

    Official GED testing is available at the Yamhill Valley campus. Go to GED.com for additional information and to schedule.

    • Si eres un alumno Nuevo en Chemeketa complete la Aplicación de Admisión de en internet
      • Estudiantes de 18 años o mayores deben obtener su numero K de Chemeketa
        • Ve a: Aplicar de Chemeketa
        • Haz clic en New Student o 1st time in college
        • Haz clic en Apply for Admission and complete forms
          • Sin tarifa de solicitud. Seleccione "para enriquecimiento personal" como su razón principal de asistencia. Seleccione "I want to get a GED" cuando se le pregunte que es su "Educational Goal". 
      • Estudiantes de 16 or 17 años deben traer a la oficina de Chemeketa en McMinnville una forma de Consentimiento para Menores firmada, para asignarles un numero K. (Mantén una copia contigo)

    Se enviará por correo electrónico a los estudiantes un video de la orientación. También tendremos una orientación tecnológica presencial obligatoria para todos los estudiantes nuevos sin créditos (GED y ESOL).

  • ESOL

    The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program offers high-quality, challenging English Language classes that help you prepare your English for work or for study in college. All classes are taught by professional teachers trained to help students learn English.

    The Chemeketa ESOL program offers classes at these levels –

    • Beginning
    • High Beginning
    • Intermediate
    • Advanced (after advanced level, students will be encouraged to attend college here at Chemeketa)

    We offer classes in these subjects –

    • Reading/Writing
    • Speaking/Listening
    • Computer Technology
    New Students 18 or Over must complete an admission application

    Step 1 - Complete the admission application (No application fee.)

    • On the "Academic Intent" Page (pg 3 of the application) select "I want to learn English" as your educational goal.
    • Please make sure to provide your email address to receive your student ID# (K#) within 1-2 business days. Your K# is required to take the CASAS (placement testing).

    Step 2 - Come to YVC Campus to complete a literacy assessment. If you pass the assessment, you can proceed to step 3. 

    Step 3 - Register for one of the orientations. 

    Step 4 - At the orientation, you will be scheduling a date for CASAS testing (ESOL Placement test) 

     

    Classes for spring term will be offered in-person on campus and remotely (synchronous online). Students who want to take this class remotely must have a computer/laptop/tablet and internet. A very limited supply of laptops is available to check out for each term on a first-come, first-served basis.

     

    We will have a mandatory orientation as well as mandatory placement testing for all new students. These orientations will be for GED and ESOL and held in Spanish and English. Please 503.472.9482 to schedule your orientation. 

     You must bring the following to orientation –

    • Chemeketa K# and/or Social Security Number
    • Photo ID
    • Copy of Underage Admission Application and Underage Approval Form (if under 18 years of age)
    • You must wear a mask at all times while on campus

    • Cost of GED class for spring term is $50.00
