This is a question i’ve been asking my self for the last couple of months. My bank statement came in the mail and this time I paid close attention to the transactions being made. I discovered that with my card I tend to spend WAY more. I also discovered that I spend most of my money on food and movies, oh and some shopping of course. Bottom line is that I know where my money is going now and I can keep an eye on the things that I’m buying. I try to think to my self, so do I need this? Or do I just want it? It’s a work in progress. My advice to all students; don’t overdraft your account, keep some kind of track on your money being spent. If you realize your spending too much cut back on things.

Summer is finally here, the best time of the year if you ask me. I am not taking any summer classes because I want to take advantage of the summer break to be stress free. I don’t think my stress is going to completely vanish but taking school out of the picture helps. I am currently working at Chemeketa but as a summer job I also work at norpac. For the people who don’t know what norpac is I don’t blame you. Norpac is a processing plant sometimes called a cannery, they process vegetables and can them or freeze them. This job is just a seasonal job, it usually starts in July and ends around September. Full time job so if your looking for fast cash it’s a good place to go work although it can be boring but once you get your paycheck it’s all worth it. I’m going to be busy this summer but hopefully I will be able to save some money for a vacation trip in the fall.

It seems that some days the sun is shining bright and the day is actually hot that I want ICE CREAM! But for now the weather is still cloudy, windy and rainy. It’s Spring break but it truly doesn’t feel like it yet, hopefully the weekend will be more exciting! A group of my friends and I are hoping to go to the coast this week. I want to go tomorrow because according to the weather it’s not suppose to rain. We’ll see what happens tomorrow !

Chemeketa is a very diverse college. People here all have different backgrounds and different ages as well. I have met people from all different places. For example, in my psychology class I had a woman that was 68 years old and she was there for self enrichment. Because people are different ages in classes it makes the learning experience unique. The learning experience is at another level. I personally enjoy a class that is diverse in age and race because other people can give you advice because they have lived longer. They explain their culture and ways of life. It’s great to meet and know people with another ethnic background than your ethnic background because we all have something to share to one another.

My family is very different from many families. I guess that’s what makes us special right? Anyways my immediate family consists of my dad, my mom, my older brother, and my younger sister. Yes, I am the middle child but I love it! From there we have two dogs a Rottweiler and lab mix which her name is Nika. Then there is Rambo who is a Doberman Pinscher. They keep us busy. Then we have my dads’ parents and brothers and sisters. My dad is the oldest of ten. So when we get together for Thanksgiving or Christmas the house is full. I enjoy that though I love big families because there is always something to do!

My major is in the medical field. I want to be a Registered Nurse. This is a career that has always interested me. I enjoy helping others and I admire any person in the medical field for helping save lives. For me to be a Nurse will be in it’s self a very rewarding career. I love the idea of me making a difference in someones life. In this career there is an option to travel and work at the same time. That’s a great option for me. I will definately take that option and get the opportunity to work and travel all over the world.

For me this was not usual in high school. Chemeketa helped me broaden my knowledge about different foods and and cultures. That’s why Chemeketa rocks!

Before I graduated high school I began to ask myself where I was going continue my education. Out of all the schools in Oregon which one was the one that I would choose. My first pick was Portland State. I had already been there on a campus tour. It was big and that could either be its strength or its weakness. Then around graduation time something amazing came. The community outreach coordinator at my high school asked me if I knew about the Chemeketa Scholars Program. That is how I found out about it. This was great, if you had a cumulative 3.5 GPA or higher you qualified to get 2 years free at Chemeketa. I Knew that I qualified and was excited. Chemeketa is close to home and I knew deep down that I was not ready to leave my family and go to Portland State. I would miss them a lot. Through the Scholars Program I got a chance to save a lot of money and still come home every night to eat dinner with my family. That’s not something most students think about when choosing the right college or university for them. I’m glad I had the opportunity to come to Chemeketa Community College.
