Chemeketa’s Lee Jacobson is hosting informational meetings regarding an upcoming tour or Europe. Participants in these meetings will find out how to register for the trip and what it includes.

Informational meetings are slated for:

7 p.m., Tuesday, April 8 at Chemeketa Community College Salem campus, Bldg. 3, Room 104.

7 p.m., Wednesday, April 9 at West Salem High School, Titan Room.

1 p.m., Saturday, April 19 in the Salem Public Library Plaza Room.

Scholarship deadline nears

Time is running short to apply for 2008-09 scholarships at Chemeketa Community College.The Chemeketa Community College Foundation office will continue to accept applications through April 11.

The Foundation administers 60 scholarships that range from $100 to $4,000 awards. While many scholarships are specific to career pursuits, other scholarships for Hispanic/Latinos students, single parents, recent high school graduates, ESL/ENL graduates, women and students who need assistance paying for child care expenses.

Two scholarship workshops are slated for Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 8, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., in the Building. 2, room 212 on the Salem Campus. Participants will receive information about applying for scholarships, scholarships availability, completing applications and writing a personal statements.

An additional workshop is scheduled at the McMinnville Campus on Tuesday, April 1, from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Clinton on campus

191px-bill_clinton.jpgFormer President Bill Clinton will be on campus today rallying support for his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton, in her bid for the nation’s highest office.

He’s expected to arrive about 2 p.m. and will be speaking in Building 50, near the intersection of Lancaster Drive and Winema Place Northeast.

As it’s the first day of spring term, we suggest parking near Building 50 or using public transportation. Parking is available on both sides of Building 50. There’s also a parking lot to the east of Building 50, off Winema Place Northeast and there may be parking on the south side of Winema Place.

Cherriots Route 2, Jan Ree, runs to Chemeketa from downtown Salem.

Auto show pulls into Salem campus

standavey.jpgClassic car enthusiasts need to sign up now to participate in the 28th Annual Stan Davey Auto Show slated for May 7.

Cost is $20 per car for one competition category or $30 per car for two categories. Registration forms can be downloaded at www.cciccweb.org or call Jeff Davis, 503-580-6527, to register. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration must be completed by May 1 to be eligible for the show.

The auto show, which is presented by the Chemeketa Chapter of International Code Council (CCICC), raises money for Marion County Fire District No. 1 Dislocated Residential Fire Victims Fund. Each year the auto show aims to increase public awareness of the role building safety and fire prevention officials, local and state building departments, and federal agencies play on the front line of defense to protect lives and property.

Sponsors are also being sought. Different levels of sponsorship are available and cost $50 to be listed as a show donor to more than $300 for corporate-level sponsorship, which includes a logo on the even T-shirt.

Caregiving ain’t easy

Caregiving is not an easy job whether the person is known to you or not, but it can be a learning experience.

On April 25, Chemeketa’s lifelong learning program is hosting an all-day caregiving workshop at the Northwest Viticulture Center in West Salem.

Join Elaine K. Sanchez, author of the tender, gritty, and uproariously funny book, Letters from Madelyn, Chronicles of a Caregiver, as she presents a practical and uplifting set of strategies for coping with anger, guilt, depression and grief. Sanchez’s presentation will touch on the resources available to help keep a loved one at home as well and need-to-know information about assisted and skilled nursing facilities. Participants develop a personalized survival plan to achieve physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual balance.

The workshop is schedule from 9 to 5 p.m.

Cost: $120 for non-credit registration (includes CEUs for professionals) and includes a light breakfast, buffet lunch and evening wine and hors d’oeuvres. Call 503-399-5181 to register with Visa or MasterCard.
