eyes-wide-open.gifOn Wednesday, May 21, Chemeketa Community College will host an Eyes Wide Open exhibit.

Included in the display are more than 90 combat boots labeled with the rank, name, age, and hometown of one serviceman or woman who has died from Oregon; 325 civilian shoes, each labeled with the name of an Iraqi man, woman, or child who has died since the beginning of the war; and 10 contractor hats with labels to represent civilian contractors who have died in Iraq.

An economic cost exhibit, and a prayer flag display naming all 4,000-plus U.S. military casualties in Iraq. There will also be extra flags and materials for visitors and volunteers to add name, rank, and date of death to new flags to be displayed.

The exhibit will occupy the New Quad area - between buildings 2 and 8 - and be on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Chemeketa Student Leadership Team, the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), Rural Organizing Project (ROP), Military Families Speak Out (MFSO) and Veterans for Peace (VFP) are sponsoring the event.
