Joshua DavisThe author of a book featured in Chemeketa Community College’s annual community reading project will be coming to the Salem campus next week for a series of events.

Joshua Davis is the author of the book “Spare Parts”, one of four books included in this year’s Chemeketa Reads series. Chemeketa Reads is a community reading project, providing a shared experience of reading, thinking and enjoying the same book.

Davis will participate in a number of events at the Salem campus. All events are free and open to the public–

  • 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1: Speaking with Q & A session, Building 6 auditorium
  • 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 2: Q & A session, Building 3 Room 116
  • 12:30-2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2: Q & A session with book signing, Building 2 Student Center

“Spare Parts” profiles four undocumented high school students in Arizona who competed in a robotics competition against some of the nation’s brightest college students. The book was turned into a film by Lions Gate in 2015. Copies of the book are available for purchase at the Chemeketa Bookstore.

Davis is a writer, film producer and co-founder of Epic magazine and Epic Digital. He is a contributing editor for Wired magazine and has had writing featured in magazines including The New Yorker, GQ, Outside, Food & Wine, Men’s Journal, Men’s Health and Maxim.

His film experience includes a documentary on joining the U.S. arm wrestling team that won Best Documentary at the 2003 Telluride Film Festival.
