I grew up out in the country on a family farm, where I still live, and would not trade it for anything. I love quiet and everyday events of living in the country. The only bad thing is the commute to school every morning. We currently have llamas, horses and a couple of goats. We also do our own hay needed to feed our livestock. In the past we have had pigs and sheep, which I am thankful we no longer have. The great part about living on a farm is you learn how to do a lot of different things such as fencing, plumbing, electrical, how to put up buildings, and mechanic work. At the same time it wears on you after a while because there is always something that needs to be done. The flip side is that it makes you accountable for what you have and haven’t gotten done.
Besides all of the farm work at home and my school, I enjoy listening and playing music. Mostly country and classic rock music and I play the piano, trumpet, and now I’m learning the guitar. My trucks are also a hobby to me, especially since I blew up the motor in my 75 Chevy, and now have an 87 Chevy that I am working on slowly. Dancing is also a hobby, I guess, at this point, because of the classes I have taken. I now enjoy it and like to use what I have learned.
I never have really wanted to go to college until my senior year of high school. I received the Ford Family Foundation Scholarship. I figured that I should go to school now that I did not have to worry about paying for it. I started my college life at Linfield College in McMinnville, where I went to school for a year and a half, before finding that it was not going to work for me. Yes, I had made many good friends, joined a fraternity, and played lacrosse. Just that the administrative side of the school was horrible and made my overall experience there no longer tolerable.
After I left Linfield I wanted to go to OSU but wanted to get more credits before starting there. Since I had some credits at Chemeketa already it seemed like a good choice. This ended up being true, I have found Chemeketa to be much more helpful to me than Linfield ever was, personally and academically. While here I have finally nailed down a major in Agricultural business and a minor in music that I will pursue once at OSU.
